Dutch Foreign Minister Announces Next US-Iran Talks in Rome

The United States and Iran are set to continue discussions on the Iranian nuclear program in Rome, according to Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp. Veldkamp made this announcement upon his arrival at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

“We firmly believe that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons. It is our preference to achieve this through negotiations,” Veldkamp told reporters. “The talks are ongoing and will proceed on Saturday.”

Contrary to rumors, the negotiations will not be held in the Netherlands but will take place in Rome, as clarified by the Dutch foreign minister.

Earlier this month, indirect talks between Tehran and Washington were facilitated by Oman in an effort to address issues related to the Iranian nuclear program. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Presidential Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff represented their respective countries during these discussions.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the meeting as constructive and conducted in a calm manner. Following the talks, Witkoff and Araghchi had a brief personal discussion in the presence of the Omani Foreign Minister. The second round of talks is scheduled for April 19.

These ongoing discussions reflect a diplomatic effort to address concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and work towards a peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation.
