EAEU Countries’ E-Commerce Surpasses $80 Billion in Total Volume

E-commerce Growth Boosts Formation of Single Economic Space in EAEU

Bishkek – 12:44, 23 September 2024 – The development of e-commerce is having a positive impact on the formation of a single economic space within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), according to Askat Bekov, Deputy Director of the Tariff and Non-Tariff Customs Regulation Department of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

Marketplaces are playing a significant role in driving this growth, allowing millions of buyers to purchase goods from hundreds of sellers across the Eurasian Union. With the total volume of e-commerce in EAEU countries reaching $80 billion and accounting for about 13 percent of retail sales, e-commerce is becoming an important sector within the region.

At the upcoming Eurasian Economic Forum in Yerevan, scheduled for September 30 to October 1, discussions will focus on the risks and prospects associated with the special regulation of electronic trading platforms, ensuring fair conditions for e-commerce from abroad, and protecting the interests of all parties involved in e-commerce.

This forum aims to address key issues surrounding the rapidly growing e-commerce sector in the EAEU and pave the way for further cooperation and development in this area. The efforts to regulate and support e-commerce are crucial in promoting economic integration and creating a level playing field for businesses across the region.
