Economist Korhan Berzeg has been missing for 12 days after going for a walk with his dog Tina in Balıkesir. Despite extensive search efforts, including the use of an aerial drone, Berzeg and his dog have not been found. Berzeg adopted Tina, a Doberman dog, from a shelter two years ago and provided her with protection training. It was revealed that Berzeg had a previous Doberman dog, and after its passing, he adopted Tina.
Berzeg’s wife, Angela Berzeg, expressed concerns about the fate of their dog Tina, suggesting that she may have been killed and disposed of. She emphasized Tina’s special qualities as a Doberman and urged authorities to continue searching for her.
Kadir Akbulut, the President of the Gönen Natural Disasters Search and Rescue Association (GONDAK), explained that they have been calling and whistling for Tina in English since she does not respond to Turkish commands. He confirmed that Tina is trained to obey the commands of Korhan Berzeg and his family. Despite their efforts, they have not yet obtained any results.
Akbulut further explained that Tina is not an aggressive dog and usually reacts when approached by her owner. Berzeg preferred to walk with Tina on the plain in autumn and in the forest in summer. The search teams have scanned various areas where Tina could have gone, including the paddy irrigation part and the forest, but unfortunately, no trace has been found.
Korhan Berzeg, a retired economist who previously worked at the World Bank in the USA, and his British wife Angela Berzeg came to their home in the Armutlu District of Gönen for a holiday. On June 17, Berzeg left home to take a walk with Tina while Angela was preparing breakfast. However, he never returned. Angela Berzeg reported him missing to the gendarmerie when he did not come back and left his mobile phone at home.
Following the report, search and rescue teams from various authorities, including AFAD, AKUT, and the Balıkesir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, were dispatched to locate Berzeg. Local NGOs, villagers, civilian search and rescue teams, and mountaineer groups from surrounding provinces also joined the efforts. The search is being supported by the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) team from the Bursa Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation (JASAT) teams from the Balıkesir Provincial Gendarmerie Command.
The search for Korhan Berzeg and Tina is ongoing, and authorities are working diligently to find them. The family remains hopeful for their safe return.
