Education Revolution: Say Goodbye to Report Cards, Hello to ‘Development Reports’!

The Ministry of National Education in Turkey is implementing a new system under the Turkey Century Education Model (TYMM) that replaces traditional report cards with “development reports” for primary school students. This new approach focuses on evaluating students’ social emotional learning skills and overall development rather than just their academic achievements.

The updated curriculum based on TYMM emphasizes a “skill-based” approach, which includes field skills, conceptual skills, and social-emotional learning skills. This holistic education model incorporates a “process-oriented measurement” method to assess students’ development processes in detail. Textbooks are also being prepared to align with this new understanding of education.

Under this new system, progress reports will be given to parents during the semester break, starting on January 17. These reports will not only highlight students’ achievements but also provide concrete suggestions for areas where children are making progress and skills that may need support.

Teachers will offer guidance to parents based on the developmental criteria used in evaluations. The reports will include recommendations to support children’s social-emotional and academic development. Parents will be able to access these progress reports through the “e-School” system.

The implementation of development reports reflects a shift towards a more comprehensive and individual development-centered approach in education. The Turkey Century Education Model aims to develop students’ academic, social, and emotional aspects, offering a new perspective in education that benefits both parents and educators.
