Electricity Transit from Russia to Kyrgyzstan via Kazakhstan Increases Drastically
In recent news, the CIS Electric Power Council has reported a significant increase in electricity transit from Russia to Kyrgyzstan via Kazakhstan. According to the report, in January 2025, the Electric Stations company imported 34.7 million kilowatt-hours from the Russian Inter RAO. This marks a 2.4 times increase compared to the previous year, with an additional 20.3 million kilowatt-hours imported.
The imported volume of 35 million kilowatt-hours is sufficient to supply the entire country of Kyrgyzstan for approximately half a day during the winter months. The statement highlights that the capacity of Kazakhstan’s electrical networks plays a crucial role in determining the volume of imports.
