Elon Musk Hopes for Elimination of Tariffs Between US and Europe

Elon Musk Calls for Complete Freedom of Trade Between US and Europe
Renowned US tech-billionaire Elon Musk recently expressed his hopes for complete freedom of trade between the United States and Europe in the near future. This statement comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump announcing tariffs on trading partners. Musk, who serves as an adviser to Trump and is known for his efforts to eliminate wasteful US public spending, made these remarks via video-link at a congress in Florence hosted by Italy’s right-wing, co-ruling League Party.
During his address, Musk proposed the idea of moving towards a zero tariff situation to create a free trade zone between Europe and North America. Trump’s recent tariff plans included imposing a general tariff of 20% on Italy and other European Union countries. Musk’s vision of greater freedom of movement between Europe and the United States was also highlighted during the event.
In a conversation with League leader Matteo Salvini, Musk emphasized the importance of allowing people to work in either region based on their preferences. He noted that he has advised the president accordingly on this matter. Musk has been vocal about his support for right-wing parties in Europe, including Salvini’s League and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Brothers of Italy party.
The League’s Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, who is aligned with Musk’s views, expressed the government’s aim for de-escalation with the US post the tariff announcement by Trump. He cautioned against retaliatory tariffs and stressed the importance of maintaining a positive trade relationship.
Musk’s positive relationship with Salvini was evident when the League chief endorsed Musk’s Starlink company for providing Italy with a satellite communications system. This collaboration underscores the shared interests and visions of both parties when it comes to fostering innovation and strengthening economic ties between the US and Europe.
