Emergency Landing: Wizz Air Flight in Budapest due to Cabin Smoke
An emergency landing in Budapest was made by a Wizz Air flight traveling from Craiova to London-Luton early Sunday morning after smoke entered the cabin, causing two crew members to feel unwell.
The W4 3751 flight departed from Craiova Airport in Romania before dawn and while flying towards London-Luton, the crew decided to divert the flight as smoke entered the cabin through the air conditioning system, as reported by AIRportal.hu.
The pilots redirected the aircraft towards Budapest near Kecskemét and successfully landed on runway 13R at Liszt Ferenc International Airport at 6:11 AM. Prior to landing, the crew alerted air traffic control that two crew members were experiencing discomfort.
The Airbus A320, with registration HA-LWM, was carrying 180 passengers and 6 crew members during the incident.
Following the event, AIRportal.hu reached out to both the airline and the airport for comment. Budapest Airport confirmed that the Wizz Air flight was diverted to Budapest due to technical and health concerns. Passengers were taken to the transit zone upon arrival and provided with water. The flight resumed its journey to Luton at 9:51 AM with a new crew and aircraft.
The affected aircraft, a 12.5-year-old Airbus A320, is one of the older planes in Wizz Air’s fleet, according to AIRportal.hu.
