Emil Zhamgyrchiev Released on Bail
Ex-deputy of the Kyrgyzstan Parliament, Emil Zhamgyrchiev, has been released on his own recognizance, according to reports from the Pervomaisky District Court. The court granted the request of the investigator of the Main Investigative Department of the State Committee for National Security to change the preventive measure from detention to a written undertaking not to leave the city. This decision comes after the Central Election Commission prematurely terminated Zhamgyrchiev’s powers as a deputy of Parliament based on his own application. Zhamgyrchiev had previously been placed in pre-trial detention and was scheduled to be in custody until February 26, but has now been released.
The release comes after Zhamgyrchiev gave an undertaking to appear before the investigative authorities and was interrogated as a suspect by the State Committee for National Security. Chairman of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, has stated that he does not intend to imprison Zhamgyrchiev. The reason for the initial arrest was reportedly due to Zhamgyrchiev’s alleged attempt to leave Kyrgyzstan.
