EMRA President Announces Return of Collected Invoices for Natural Gas
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that residences at the Filyos Natural Gas Processing Facility will be “free for 1 month and discounted for 1 year”. The good news has now been published in the Official Gazette. The decision covers all invoices of residence, places of worship, and cemevi subscribers from April 24, 2023 to May 31, 2023 and natural gas bills up to 25 cubic meters of their next invoices until May 1, 2024. These expenses will be covered by the Ministry of Natural Resources’ budget.
Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) Chairman, Mustafa Yılmaz, has confirmed that consumers will not lose any rights and the collected invoices, if any, will be canceled and returned to citizens. The chairman added that even prepaid meter users will benefit from the initiative. The amount of consumption for one month will be determined, and the following month, the same amount of natural gas will be loaded free of charge onto citizens’ cards.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, has expressed his hope that citizens will “feel these on their first bills.” He also stated that more good news is on the way, with works and well evaluation studies about to be completed for an oil field with 180 million barrels of producible reserves in Esma Çevik wells. The minister is expecting positive results and stated that the President will share the good news when it becomes available.
Overall, the new initiative will significantly lower expenses for residences and help alleviate financial burdens during challenging times.
