Emre Belözoğlu rejects ruling out coaching Galatasaray
Medipol Başakşehir coach, Emre Belözoğlu, has acknowledged his team’s defeat to Galatasaray in the 33rd week of the Spor Toto Super League with a 1-0 final score. Belözoğlu explained that failure to play the football the team wanted in the attack brought about their defeat. During a press conference after the match, he congratulated Galatasaray and praised their clear pressure on his team.
Başakşehir-Emre Belözoğlu has been a successful journey so far, with the coach contributing to the team’s progress from a relegation situation to collecting 60 points last year and 54 points this year. Although there are still a few matches left to play until the end of the season, Belözoğlu assures fans that the team is not a failure. He believes the club has a clear chance of participating in the Turkish Cup final and possibly even European cups.
Belözoğlu admitted his team needs to improve on speeding up their game while playing strategically. He said, “Making a game from behind is part of our game, and we need to speed up in setting up the game.” Belözoğlu also acknowledged that despite Galatasaray’s dominance, his team could have left without losing.
On whether he would ever coach Galatasaray in the future, Belözoğlu replied that he cannot make big promises. He explained, “Life taught me never to make big sentences. I do not say ‘I will never coach Galatasaray’ or ‘I will never coach another team.’ Everyone can perceive it as they want.”
Despite the team’s recent loss, Belözoğlu believes his team has the potential to close out the season with a trophy. With a few more matches left in the league, Başakşehir will continue to work towards securing a place in the Turkish Cup final and potentially further in European competitions.
