Energy Specialists from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Prepare for CASA-1000 Testing

Bishkek – 09:12, 10 August 2024 – Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, recently met with his counterpart from Tajikistan, Daler Juma, during a working visit to Kazakhstan. The purpose of their meeting was to discuss the progress of the CASA-1000 project and the transmission and sale of electricity between Central and South Asia.

The CASA-1000 project aims to connect the energy systems of Central Asia with South Asia, specifically linking Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with Afghanistan and Pakistan. This initiative will facilitate the trade of electricity in accordance with international standards, with the anticipated launch set for the end of 2024.

Currently, a 456-kilometer 500 kV high-voltage line is being constructed in Kyrgyzstan. The construction of a unit at the 500 kV Datka substation has already been completed, and the remaining construction work is expected to be finished by the end of August.

As part of the preparations for the full launch of the CASA-1000 project, the Energy Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan plan to conduct tests on the overhead lines, transformers, and substations. These tests will ensure that everything is in working order for the successful operation of the energy transmission project.

Overall, the collaboration between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the CASA-1000 project marks a significant step towards enhancing regional energy connectivity and promoting sustainable energy trade in the region.
