Energy Specialists See 10% Salary Increase

Bishkek – On May 14, 2024, during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the fuel and energy complex, subsoil use, and industrial policy, Deputy Kunduzbek Sulaimanov raised the issue of increasing salaries for employees in the energy sector. The Deputy mentioned that he has been receiving numerous requests regarding this matter.

In response, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev stated that starting from May 1, the salaries of energy specialists have already been raised by 10 percent. Additionally, he highlighted that in the last three years, 205 units of transport have been allocated to the energy sector.

Minister Ibraev also emphasized the importance of reducing imports in the energy sector. He mentioned that the government annually spends $35 million on coal imports, totaling around 600,000 tons. However, with the commencement of coal mining at the Ak-Ulak deposit, 10,000 tons have already been delivered to the heating and power plant. If the coal passes laboratory tests successfully, the country could reduce imports significantly, from 150 to 180 tons, and cut costs from $8 million to $12 million.

This move towards increasing salaries and reducing imports demonstrates the government’s commitment to the development and sustainability of the energy sector in Kyrgyzstan.
