Enforcing the Two-State Solution Without Waiting for Israel’s Approval
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke out against Israel’s aggression in Gaza during a meeting organized by the Gaza Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League with the European Union (EU) and Norway. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
Fidan expressed concern over Israel’s “killing spree” in Gaza, noting that ceasefire talks have reached an impasse. He criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for undermining ceasefire initiatives and escalating aggression not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Lebanon.
“Our region is in flames because of Netanyahu,” Fidan stated, highlighting the critical situation in the region. He emphasized that the international community needs to address Israel’s genocidal aggression and take action to implement a two-state solution.
Fidan pointed out that Israel’s rejection of the State of Palestine and the two-state solution is unacceptable, and called for stronger measures to be taken. He noted that recent decisions by the International Court of Justice and the UN General Assembly have provided an opportunity to push for Palestinian statehood.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that the occupation of Palestine has not brought peace or security to Israel, and urged for the swift implementation of a two-state solution. He reiterated Turkey’s proposal for a guarantor mechanism to ensure the security of both countries and called for immediate action before it is too late.
