Enhancing Trade Relations Between Uzbekistan and Pakistan
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, recently met with Zubair Motiwala, the Chief of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade relations between the two countries. The meeting, which took place in Karachi, focused on expanding trade opportunities and diversifying the import-export portfolio.
During the discussions, the Uzbek side highlighted the various incentives and conditions available to foreign investors in Uzbekistan, aiming to attract more investment from Pakistan. The meeting was attended by deputy heads of TDAP and representatives from departments responsible for fostering trade and economic relations with foreign nations.
One of the key points of the meeting was the exploration of new avenues to boost mutual trade. Both parties agreed to increase participation in trade and industrial exhibitions held in both countries, as well as establish connections between trading houses to promote each other’s products. Additionally, plans were made to create online platforms showcasing goods from Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
The Pakistani side praised the success of the “Made in Pakistan” industrial exhibition held in Tashkent in June 2024 and extended an invitation to Uzbekistan to participate in upcoming exhibitions in Lahore. Discussions also revolved around strengthening trade, economic, and cultural ties between Karachi and Uzbekistan’s regions, with a focus on enhancing cooperation between the business communities of both countries.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to exchange detailed information regarding international exhibitions and fairs organized in Uzbekistan and Pakistan. Both sides also discussed proposals for establishing air connectivity on the Tashkent–Karachi route to further facilitate trade relations between the two countries. The discussions concluded with a commitment to work closely together to elevate trade relations to new heights and foster greater economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
