Ensuring Transparency in Child Parent Relationships

The Turkish Cypriot Medical Association (KTTB) emphasizes the importance of transparency when it comes to issues of child parenthood. In a recent statement, the KTTB Board of Directors addressed concerns regarding the accuracy of data related to child parents, stating that any attempts to downplay or distort the truth are not a solution.
The KTTB based their previous statement on data from the 2023 Statistical Yearbook published by the State Statistical Institute. They refute claims that the data is inaccurate and urge for any disagreements to be supported by concrete evidence or scientific data.
The association highlights the serious health problems, both physical and psychological, that can arise from parenthood at a young age. They stress the importance of developing effective policies based on real data to support child parents and their children.
The KTTB calls on state institutions to take action to address the issue of child parenthood, rather than dismissing it. They urge for a collaborative effort to support these families and provide necessary social services.
Furthermore, the statement points out alarming statistics, such as 18 marriages and 102 children becoming parents between the ages of 14-19 in 2023. The KTTB raises concerns about potential child abuse in these cases and urges the Department of Social Services to intervene.
Overall, the KTTB emphasizes the need for state institutions to work with scientific data and maintain transparency in their efforts to address issues related to child parenthood. They commit to monitoring situations that threaten public peace and health in the region.
