Hagia Sophia Reopens as Mosque After 86 Years
After the 10th Department of the Council of State cancelled the decision of the Council of Ministers from 1934 that converted Hagia Sophia from a mosque to a museum, the historic site has been reopened as a mosque. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shared the Presidential Decision to transfer the management of the Hagia Sophia-i Kebir Mosque Sheriff to the Directorate of Religious Affairs and opening it for worship in July 2020. This decision has caused a significant impact in the world press. The site was reopened to worship after 86 years, with President Erdoğan ending his election program with evening prayers at the Hagia Sophia-i Kebir Mosque in Istanbul.
