Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Sworn in as Turkish President for New Term
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has officially begun his new term as president of Turkey, having been elected once again in the May 28 election. Erdoğan attended a swearing-in ceremony at the Turkish Grand National Assembly, where he took the oath of office in front of 21 heads of state, 13 prime ministers, and many ministers.
Erdoğan will continue in his role until 2028, and he received his mandate from the Temporary Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Devlet Bahçeli. He also plans to visit Anıtkabir after the ceremony, before attending the “Initiation Ceremony” at the Presidential Complex.
Erdoğan’s election victory was a decisive one, with him receiving over 50% of the vote and beating out his nearest rival by more than 20 percentage points. Despite concerns raised by opposition parties and international observers over the fairness of the election, Erdoğan has maintained that the result was free and fair.
The president’s new term is expected to be a challenging one, with Turkey grappling with a range of economic and political issues. Erdoğan will also be under pressure to address growing concerns over human rights and democratic freedoms in the country.
