Erkinjon Turdimov Appointed Acting Governor of Syrdarya Region
Erkinjon Turdimov, a seasoned leader who has previously served in various governor positions in Uzbekistan, has been appointed as the acting governor of the Syrdarya region. This decision was made by the President of Uzbekistan, as reported by the president’s press service.
Turdimov, born in 1969 in the Samarkand region, has a background in economics, having graduated from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy in 1991. He started his career in the banking sector and has held various leadership roles since then.
Throughout his career, Turdimov has served as the head of the Navoi regional branch of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity, as well as governor of the Khatyrchi district. He has also held positions as the First Deputy Minister for Rural Economic Reforms and governor of the Navoi and Surkhandarya regions.
Most recently, Turdimov served as the governor of the Samarkand region until November 2024, when he took a break from his duties due to health reasons. His return to leadership as the acting governor of the Syrdarya region marks a significant development in the region’s governance.
Turdimov’s appointment comes after the dismissal of Akmaljon Makhmudaliev, who had been serving as the governor of the Syrdarya region since November 2022. Makhmudaliev was removed from his position due to shortcomings in attracting investments and developing key sectors such as agriculture.
