Erzurum Mayor Mehmet Sekmen Criticizes Istanbul’s Water Rates and Opposition Leaders’ Earthquake Relief Efforts
Erzurum Mayor Mehmet Sekmen recently made a series of statements criticizing the water rates in Istanbul and the opposition leaders’ earthquake relief efforts. According to Sekmen, while a unit of water in Erzurum costs 10 Turkish Liras, the same unit costs 25 Turkish Liras in Istanbul.
Sekmen also questioned the government’s efforts in building earthquake-resistant housing, stating that opposition leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had promised to build such housing for free. However, the mayor pointed out that there has been no progress on this issue since the earthquake in Izmir. Sekmen also blamed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for creating chaos and warned that no one should mess with Erzurum.
