Erzurum Unveils New Tourism Routes as “2025 Tourism Capital”

Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Expands Tourism Routes in Preparation for 2025 Events

The Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Directorate has been hard at work creating new tourism routes in the southern part of the city. This initiative comes as Erzurum was declared the “2025 Tourism Capital”, highlighting its potential as a tourist destination.

The newly designated tourism routes include areas abundant in natural beauty such as historical bastions, tombs, bridges, churches, mosques, caves, castles, canyons, and valleys in districts like Karayazı, Tekman, Hınıs, Karaçoban, Köprüköy, and Pasinler.

To promote the tourism potential of these newly established routes, the Metropolitan Municipality organized a tour that was attended by academics and university students. Participants were able to immerse themselves in the local culture, indulge in regional cuisine, and explore the historical and natural wonders of the area.

City Promotion Specialist, Canan Şimşek, emphasized the goal of showcasing Erzurum’s cultural wealth to the world in preparation for the events scheduled for 2025. Following Erzurum’s selection as the “2025 Tourism Capital” by the Economic Cooperation Organization, the municipality launched a professional tour program to the southern districts for the first time.

During the tour, the group visited various notable locations, starting in Tekman’s Akpınar village, where they discovered a wide array of gastronomic delights. The journey continued to the Hınıs district, where tourists marveled at the historic Ulu Mosque and explored the picturesque Hınıs Canyons. From plains to orchards, churches, mosques, and other historical sites, visitors were captivated by the richness and diversity of these lesser-known destinations.

The municipality’s efforts to develop new tourism routes aim to attract more visitors and put Erzurum on the map as a must-visit destination for cultural and natural exploration. With the support of local communities, academics, and tourists alike, Erzurum is on track to shine as a prominent tourism hub in the coming years.
