Arif Develi, the Founder of Famous Gaziantep Kebab Chains Develi, Passes Away
Arif Develi, the well-known owner of the Gaziantep kebab chains Develi, has passed away. The sad news was announced on Develi Restaurant’s Instagram account, where it was stated, “We lost our dear, beloved and precious Arif Develi. We express our condolences to all his loved ones.”
Arif Develi was born in Gaziantep in 1944. His father passed away when he was just a young child, and he began working at his grandfather’s restaurant at the age of six. Alongside his brothers Hayri, Ali, and Nihat, Develi learned the ropes of the restaurant business, while also continuing his education.
By the age of twelve, Arif Develi was already taking on significant responsibilities at the restaurant, as his older brother had left Gaziantep. His professional growth continued into his twenties, and after completing his military service, he made the move to Istanbul. In 1966, he opened the first Develi Restaurant in Samatya, Istanbul.
More than three decades later, in 1997, Arif Develi opened the first branch of the Develi Restaurant Chain in Kalamış, using his own resources. Today, the Develi Restaurants are looked after by Arif Develi’s sons, Ali and Nuri Develi, carrying on their father’s legacy in the culinary world.
The passing of Arif Develi marks the end of an era in the Turkish restaurant scene, as he leaves behind a lasting impact with his popular and delicious kebab dishes. May he rest in peace.
