Esin Dies at the Hands of Her Estranged Husband
A tragic incident took place on August 29th at Ulus Square in the Atatürk Neighborhood that resulted in the loss of lives of two individuals. Özkan Karabıyık, who was in the process of divorcing his wife Esin Karabıyık, allegedly stabbed her and her relative Ebru Duvar in a horrifying attack with an unknown motive. When bystanders tried to intervene, Özkan turned the knife on himself, causing serious injuries to himself as well.
Despite immediate medical attention at the Ödemiş State Hospital, both Ebru Duvar and Özkan Karabıyık succumbed to their injuries and tragically lost their lives. Esin Karabıyık, who also suffered serious injuries in the attack, underwent surgery to save her life.
Sadly, after battling for 29 days, Özkan Karabıyık’s health took a turn for the worse about 10 days ago, leading to his transfer to the İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Özkan Karabıyık ultimately lost his life today.
This senseless act of violence has left a community in mourning and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing domestic violence in all its forms. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
