Establishment of Turkey Mediators and Mediation Centers Platform

Mediation Institution in Turkey Grows with Momentum

The mediation institution in Turkey has seen significant growth since its implementation in 2013, becoming a crucial solution point for many problematic issues. TURAMEP President Nihat Şimşek spoke at the opening ceremony held in a plaza in Ankara, highlighting the success of the mediation system in the country.

With 45 thousand registered mediators in the mediation registry, Şimşek noted that approximately 65 percent of the 1.5 million dispute processes last year resulted in an agreement through mediation. This has led to at least 2 million people choosing friendship over enmity, contributing significantly to social peace and reconciliation in Turkish society.

Şimşek emphasized the importance of social peace and reconciliation for the survival of the state and the peace of the nation. He praised the valuable figures in society who act as mediators, including former presidents of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, former ministers, and retired members of the Supreme Court of Appeals.

The president also announced the establishment of a platform for mediators to express their problems and expectations through democratic means as a civil initiative. Additionally, Turkish and Azeri mediators will engage in mutual visits to foster cooperation and exchange knowledge.

Nadir Adilov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediation Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, highlighted the growing number of mediators and mediation centers in Azerbaijan. Despite the lower number compared to Turkey, Adilov emphasized the continuous growth of mediation practices in the country.

Hakan Öztatar, General Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the establishment of TURAMEP. Since the start of the mediation process in 2013, approximately 5.9 million disputes have entered mediation, with 709 thousand disputes resolved through voluntary mediation last year.

The success and growth of the mediation institution in Turkey showcase its pivotal role in promoting social peace, reconciliation, and conflict resolution in the country. As mediators continue to expand their reach and impact, the future looks promising for the evolution of mediation practices in Turkey and beyond.
