Ethnovillage Celebrates Cultures and Unity at World Nomad Games
The World Nomad Games recently concluded in Astana, featuring an ethnovillage that captured the hearts of locals and tourists alike. The ethnovillage, located near the Kazanat racetrack, offered a rich cultural experience for visitors, showcasing nomadic heritage, traditions, and cuisines.
The ethnovillage was divided into different areas, including a central square with a taiqazan, a folk music tent, an open-air museum, and spaces for sports events and national cuisine. Each region of Kazakhstan was represented with yurts showcasing unique traditions and food.
One of the highlights of the ethnovillage was the artisan market, featuring over 200 master craftsmen displaying traditional handcrafted pieces. Visitors were enchanted by the intricate designs and skilled craftsmanship on display.
One artisan, Gulmira Aigozhina, showcased the art of felting, an ancient textile-making process used by nomads for centuries. She explained the practicality and benefits of felted items, including scarves and rugs adorned with protective talismans.
Another artist, Selat Metin, demonstrated the art of Ebru, painting on water with mesmerizing designs. He shared the history and significance of Ebru, highlighting its origins from Central Asia to Turkey through the Silk Road.
The ethnovillage also offered a rich culinary experience, with traditional dishes like kazy, plov, shashlyk, samsa, and bauyrsak delighting taste buds. Visitors from around the world shared their impressions of the games and the cultural exchange that took place at the ethnovillage.
The World Nomad Games concluded with a grand closing ceremony, featuring participants from 21 different sports. The ethnovillage hosted approximately 100 cultural events daily, showcasing the diversity and unity of nomadic cultures.
