EU Government’s ‘Failed Solution’ on Migration Compromises Security
The European Union’s recent decision on migration policy has sparked criticism and concern from Hungarian officials, including György Bakondi, the prime minister’s chief security advisor. Bakondi stated that the EU is once again pushing for a solution that has already failed in western Europe and could seriously compromise security.
One of the main points of contention is the decision to introduce a distribution of migrants by quota, with Brussels determining how many migrants Hungary should accommodate. According to Bakondi, if Hungary fails to comply with these quotas, the country would be required to pay a fee per capita in compensation. Additionally, in cases of emergency, refusal to accommodate migrants and paying compensation instead would not be an option.
Bakondi emphasized the connection between organised crime, terrorism, and illegal migration, and asserted that the Hungarian government cannot accept the associated security risk. He also contended that the EU’s position is in conflict with the Hungarian constitution, and that the government is prepared to fight for the security and sovereignty of the Hungarian people in legal forums.
Furthermore, Bakondi expressed concern that the EU is looking to expedite the citizenship process for migrants, as they believe that Muslim illegal migrants would not support nationalist-conservative parties. He suggested that this would ultimately benefit left-liberal forces in the long run.
The situation has escalated to the point where the Schengen zone is in serious trouble, with strict control being prolonged at the Hungarian border. Additionally, Hungarian ministers have strongly rejected the new EU pact.
The tensions between Hungary and the EU over migration policy are likely to continue as both sides remain steadfast in their positions.
