EU Foreign Minister Kallas Addresses Developments in Syria
EU High Representative Kallas spoke to the press before the first EU Foreign Ministers Meeting under his leadership, highlighting the importance of discussing developments in Syria.
Kallas revealed that the top priority on the ministers’ agenda would be the situation in Syria, emphasizing the need for diplomacy. He mentioned that the EU’s top diplomat in Syria would be in Damascus that day to establish contact with the new government.
Having recently met with key stakeholders in Jordan, including Turkey, the USA, and the United Nations, Kallas stressed the significance of international unity in supporting a stable and peaceful future for Syria.
The Foreign Ministers Meeting aims to determine the level of engagement with the new Syrian leadership and monitor their actions following the fall of the Baath regime. The EU’s decisions in the following weeks will be based on the developments in Syria under the new administration.
