EU to Fund €28 Million for School Restoration in Ukraine

The European Union to Allocate €28 Million for School Restoration Project in Ukraine

Bishkek – August 16, 2024 – The European Union has announced that it will allocate €28 million to the project “Restoration of schools in Ukraine”, according to the UN website.

The funds will be used to repair 26 educational institutions in Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy Oblasts. The repairs will include the installation of new windows and doors, restoration of the heating system, walls, roofs, and classrooms.

The UN Office for Project Services is coordinating the restoration of more than 80 schools that were damaged during the hostilities in Ukraine. It is reported that every seventh educational institution in Ukraine was damaged, with more than 200 schools completely destroyed and around 1,600 schools damaged.

Due to the extent of the damage, many regions in Ukraine have had to switch to online learning, which has been further complicated by the lack of electricity in some areas.

The EU’s contribution to the restoration project is seen as a crucial step in rebuilding the education infrastructure in Ukraine and ensuring that students have access to safe and supportive learning environments.
