Euro to Hungarian Forint Exchange Rate to Stabilize at 400: Bleak Forecast

Financial experts predict that the EUR/HUF exchange rate will continue to hover around 400 in the near future, with no major depreciation of the forint expected unless unforeseen external factors arise. This also means that the Hungarian currency is unlikely to strengthen significantly, and the price of one euro is expected to remain between HUF 380-400.

Recent data from DNH shows that the forint has shown strong performance in recent weeks, trading at 383.95 against the euro and 353.72 against the dollar. However, the forint has started to weaken in the past few days, indicating a shift in its momentum.

Pénzcentrum consulted with financial experts who believe that the EUR/HUF exchange rate will remain within the 380-400 range in the coming months. Despite a period of strengthening, the forint has experienced some weakening recently, with the EUR/HUF rate reaching 390 and the USD/HUF rate hovering around 360.

Analysts, such as János Nagy from Erste, attribute the recent fluctuations in the forint to typical market movements, influenced by factors such as the strength of the euro and the dollar. Expectations regarding the Hungarian National Bank’s interest rate policy and those of major central banks like the Fed and ECB also play a role in influencing the forint’s performance.

András Bukovszki from CIB Bank echoes the sentiment that the EUR/HUF exchange rate is expected to fluctuate within the 380-400 range. Both experts agree that while there may be periods of high volatility, they do not anticipate rapid weakening of the forint. If such a scenario does occur, the Hungarian central bank may adjust its interest rate policy to support the currency.

For individuals exchanging money before holidays, using a credit card instead of exchanging cash may offer a more favorable currency conversion rate, according to János Nagy. This strategy can help offset potential weakening of the forint and provide cost savings for travelers.

Overall, analysts do not foresee significant fluctuations in the EUR/HUF exchange rate in the near future, barring any unexpected events. While the forint may not experience remarkable gains in the short term, it is also unlikely to face sudden depreciation without external changes.
