Evidence Links Davit Ishkhanyan and Brother to Azerbaijani Civilians’ Deaths in Garadaghli

Trial Continues for Armenian Nationals Linked to 1991 Shelling Incident
On Friday, the Baku Military Court convened to further investigate the involvement of Davit Ishkhanyan and his brother Grigory Ishkhanyan in a tragic shelling incident that occurred in the village of Garadaghli, located in the Khojavand district. The event, which took place from June 27 to 28, 1991, resulted in the deaths of Azerbaijani civilians.
During the hearing, pivotal documents were reviewed, including an initial statement made by Emil Balayan on June 28, 1991. Balayan’s testimony outlined the premeditated nature of the attack on the farm where Azerbaijani residents lived and detailed the identities of those who participated. He named several individuals alongside the Ishkhanyan brothers, including Avakyan Armin Rodikovich, Gabrilyan Monik Aramovich, and others, all reportedly organized under the leadership of Valodiya Khachaturyan.
In response to state prosecutors, Davit Ishkhanyan denied his and his brother’s involvement in the events that transpired in Garadaghli, contrary to the testimonies presented.
The trial involves a group of Armenian nationals accused of serious offenses including war crimes, terrorism, aggressive war preparation, genocide, and violations of wartime laws. The proceedings are critical as they explore the dark chapters of conflict in the region.
The next court hearing is set for May 5, where additional evidence and testimonies are expected to unfold. The case highlights ongoing tensions related to historical clashes and the quest for justice for the affected communities.
