A draft resolution proposing the transfer of land from the Samarkand and Akdarya districts to the city of Samarkand has been approved in its first reading during a recent plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. This resolution aims to amend the boundaries of Samarkand and facilitate the development of a new business and residential complex called “Shirin” from 2023 to 2030.
In accordance with a presidential decree, plans are underway to establish a Directorate responsible for the development of the “Shirin” complex. The Cabinet of Ministers has proposed transferring 170 hectares of land from the Samarkand district and 243 hectares from the Akdarya district to the city of Samarkand for this purpose.
The expansion will see the construction of 254 multi-story buildings, 19 business and commercial centers, 50 social facilities, 89 entertainment and shopping complexes, and a historical town in the area. Additionally, infrastructure development plans include 112 km of internal roads, pedestrian and bicycle paths, 6 km of an above-ground metro line, 2 large bridges, a 7.2 km internal communication tunnel, 180 km of irrigation pipelines, 14 km of canals, and various other irrigation facilities.
Throughout the decision-making process, the draft resolution was discussed at mahalla citizens’ gatherings, as well as at the regional and city councils of Samarkand and the district councils of Samarkand and Akdarya. Cartographic boundary maps and classifications were approved during these discussions.
Deputies noted that these changes will enhance living conditions for the population and stimulate growth in the production and service sectors of the region. The approved resolution sets the stage for further progress and development in the city of Samarkand.
