Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, Holds Meeting with ILO Director-General
Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, recently met with a delegation led by Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), on April 14. The meeting, which took place in Azerbaijan, highlighted the strong and effective partnership between the country and the ILO.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the long-term cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ILO, emphasizing the importance of enhancing social welfare as a key focus of the country’s state policy. Significant progress has been made in social security within Azerbaijan, impacting millions of people through social reform packages. The introduction of the fifth reform package in January 2025 is expected to benefit an additional 3 million individuals.
Discussions during the meeting also covered Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to improve labor productivity, strengthen labor rights in alignment with international standards, combat informal employment, and expand employment programs. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the partnership agenda between Azerbaijan and the ILO, as well as explore opportunities for further collaboration.
