Exploring the Link Between Gadgets and Childhood Eye Cancer

Dr. Otabek Ikromov Debunks Myth that Gadgets Cause Eye Cancer

Dr. Otabek Ikromov, Chief Physician of the Republican Eye Diseases Clinical Hospital and a Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Sciences, has recently addressed concerns regarding the link between excessive gadget use and eye cancer. Despite claims circulating on social media platforms, Dr. Ikromov has stated that scientific evidence does not support the notion that mobile phones or other gadgets expose the human eye to radiation or directly cause oncological diseases. However, he cautions that prolonged and continuous use of gadgets may contribute to various health issues, including eye tumors.

The Ministry of Health sought clarification from Dr. Ikromov in response to reports of increased cases of eye cancer among children in Uzbekistan, allegedly due to excessive gadget use. Dr. Ikromov emphasized the growing global concern over oncological diseases, citing data from the World Health Organization that shows a high mortality rate among cancer patients within a year of diagnosis.

While the incidence of tumors, including those affecting the visual organs, has been on the rise in recent years, Dr. Ikromov pointed out that gadgets are not the primary cause of eye cancer. Studies conducted at Essen University in Germany have shown that mobile phones and other devices do not emit radiation that can damage the human eye or lead to oncological diseases.

Dr. Ikromov highlighted genetic predisposition, harmful environmental factors, and certain viral infections as the main risk factors for eye cancer. He warned against complacency, emphasizing that while gadgets may not directly cause cancer, their excessive use can contribute to various eye-related health problems, including tumors.

To minimize risks associated with gadget use, ophthalmologists recommend limiting children’s screen time, using moisturizing eye drops for individuals who work on computers for extended periods, and following professional eye care guidelines. While it may be unrealistic to avoid gadgets entirely in today’s digital age, practicing moderation and taking preventive measures are essential for maintaining eye health and overall well-being.
