Extension of Moratorium on Gas Stations in Bishkek City Center

Bishkek to extend moratorium on land allocation for gas stations
The city council of Bishkek is considering an extension of the moratorium on the allocation of land plots for the construction of gas stations in the city center. The proposed extension is for a period of 10 years and is aimed at addressing environmental and safety concerns, as well as improving transportation infrastructure.
The moratorium, which was originally imposed in 2013, is set to be extended until December 31, 2033. The purpose of the extension is to ensure environmental and technogenic safety, as well as to address transportation interchange issues in the city center. Additionally, the extension would allow for the repurposing of previously allocated sites for the construction of gas stations, for the design and construction of social facilities, public gardens, parks, green areas, multi-storey parking lots, and parking lots with objects of social, cultural, and household purposes.
It is important to note that any repurposing of the allocated sites must ensure that objects of social, cultural, and household purposes do not make up more than 30 percent of the commissioned areas. The proposed extension would also continue the existing moratorium on the allocation of land and the construction of gas stations in the specific area bounded by Tokombaev/Masaliev, Sadyrbaev, Tolstoy (from Sadyrbaev Street to Taishetskaya Street), Fuchik, Kurmanjan Datka, 7 April, and Zhibek Jolu Avenue.
The draft resolution for the extension of the moratorium has been submitted for public discussion, and it remains to be seen how the proposal will be received by the residents of Bishkek. Environmental and safety concerns are paramount in urban planning, and the proposed extension of the moratorium reflects the city council’s commitment to addressing these issues in the capital city.
