Extreme Heat Wave Forecast: Temperatures to Soar to 45 Degrees

As summer approaches, the heatwave has started to take its toll across the country. Meteorologists are predicting a significant increase in temperatures, ranging from 4 to 12 degrees, in the upcoming days.

Şahin Şahbaz, the Analysis and Forecasts Branch Manager of the General Directorate of Meteorology, shared insights on the weather conditions expected to impact the country this week. He mentioned that the rainy weather experienced in the past week will give way to warmer conditions as the country comes under the influence of a high-pressure ridge system. This change in weather patterns is expected to bring slightly cloudy, clear, and warm weather until the end of the week.

Regions like Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean are experiencing temperatures well above seasonal norms, with some areas seeing an increase of 8 to 12 degrees. The rest of the country is also likely to witness a rise of 4 to 8 degrees above the seasonal averages.

After the weekend, a new rainy system is expected to bring relief from the scorching temperatures, with temperatures returning to seasonal norms. Despite the increase in temperatures, Şahbaz assured that the weather conditions this week do not classify as “African temperatures.”

In major metropolitan cities like Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, hot and dry weather is expected for the next three days. Residents can expect temperatures to be significantly higher than the seasonal averages, with cities like Izmir reaching up to 40 degrees.

Antalya, known for its warm climate, is forecasted to reach temperatures as high as 45 degrees by the end of the week. The Governorship issued a warning advising vulnerable groups to take precautions during the hottest hours of the day to avoid heat-related illnesses.

In Aydın and Manisa, temperatures are expected to peak at 45 degrees, presenting challenges for residents in coping with the extreme heat. Similarly, other regions like Izmir, Balıkesir, and Çanakkale are also anticipated to experience high temperatures in the coming days.

As the heatwave sweeps across the country, authorities are urging the public to stay hydrated, seek shade, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent heat-related health issues. Stay safe and stay cool during this summer heatwave.
