Extreme Weather Hits Muğla: Heavy Rain and Snow Reported – Latest News from Turkey
Severe Rainfall Causes Flooding and Damage in Muğla Province
In the central district of Menteşe, residents and businesses alike were hit hard by heavy rainfall that has been ongoing since yesterday morning. The basements of some houses and workplaces were flooded, and broken tree branches caused damage to vehicles. Water accumulation in the streets and neighborhoods in the city center also added to the chaos.
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality swiftly responded to the floods that affected the whole province. A total of 255 reports were received by the Metropolitan Municipality Call Center, with an additional 80 reports to the 112 Call Center.
Menteşe district received the most rainfall in Muğla, with 158.6 kilograms per square meter. Other areas that were heavily impacted include Milas, Köyceğiz, Dalaman, Marmaris, Bodrum, Ula, Kavaklıdere, Yatağan, and Seydikemer.
In total, 42 residences and businesses were flooded, and three vehicles got trapped due to the heavy rainfall throughout the province.
In Marmaris, streets and avenues were filled with water, with trees falling in Turunç District. The sea’s color changed to brown in some areas due to muddy water coming from higher elevations as a result of the heavy rains.
The downpour also had a negative impact on life in the Bodrum district. In Gümbet District, houses were flooded, and municipal teams had to conduct evacuation operations using sewage trucks and water pumps. Additionally, waste from the streams filled the shelter where small fishing boats and private boats are moored in Yahşi District.
Moreover, snowfall was reported in the higher parts of Seydikemer district, prompting locals to enjoy a rare snow day at an altitude of 1300 meters on the Fethiye-Antalya highway. Highways teams are currently working on clearing the snow and salting the roads to ensure smooth transportation and prevent any disruptions.
