Falling further behind at Akkuyu: Latest Updates

New Milestone Reached in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant Project
The first nuclear power plant in Türkiye, Akkuyu, has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards clean energy. The cooling system of the power plant has been strengthened, marking another step forward in the development of this crucial energy source.

A major obstacle was recently overcome at the Akkuyu power plant, as the massive concrete wall separating the pump stations of the first power unit from the Mediterranean was demolished. This clearance now allows for the cooling system to work more effectively, ensuring smoother operations at the plant.

During this essential process, diver teams were tasked with dividing the 117-meter-long wall into pieces using special diamond ropes. This meticulous cutting process has enabled the seamless transportation of sea water with pumps, eliminating any potential disruptions in the cooling system.

As a result of this development, the plant will now be able to draw 272 thousand cubic meters of sea water per hour to meet its cooling needs efficiently. This achievement signifies a significant progress in the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project, bringing Türkiye closer to a greener and more sustainable energy future.
