Farm Owner Charged in Fatal Fire that Killed Five Uzbekistani Citizens
Elena Sobina, the daughter of the former Minister of Agriculture of the Udmurt Republic, has recently been placed under house arrest until February 24 by court order. This comes following a tragic incident on December 24, where a massive fire erupted at a farm in the village of Malorechensky, claiming the lives of five Uzbek citizens.
Sobina, along with the director of the “Mir” enterprise, Vladimir Chayka, are facing criminal charges for various offenses including “violating fire safety requirements,” “negligence,” and “organizing illegal migration.” The accused parties have paid 500,000 rubles in compensation to the families of three of the deceased individuals.
Sobina has denied the charges brought against her, while her brother stated that they have managed to provide compensation to the families of two of the workers who lost their lives in the fire, but faced challenges in transferring funds to the other workers due to banking restrictions.
The fire at the livestock farm in Tatarstan resulted in the deaths of five Uzbek nationals and the safe evacuation of 33 individuals. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working to verify the identities of the deceased and make arrangements for the repatriation of their remains.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and the accused parties will have their day in court to address the charges brought against them. The authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind the fire and ensure that justice is served for the victims and their families.
