Ankara Prosecutor’s Office Completes Investigation into Assault on Galatasaray Fans

The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded its investigation into the assault of Galatasaray fans Kemal Metinel, Uğur İris, and his daughter Emine Nil İris after a match at Üsküdar Burhan Felek Sports Hall on April 5.

According to the indictment, the father and daughter were attacked by a pre-organized group of fans after the match, attempting to take their bags containing Galatasaray Sports Club flags and banners. The suspects allegedly attacked and kicked Emine Nil İris, resulting in injuries that required medical attention for Uğur İris. The indictment also states that the suspects acted in unity of thought and action.

The prosecution has requested prison sentences ranging from 10 to 15 years for seven suspects for the crime of “plundering together by more than one person.” Additionally, the suspects are facing imprisonment from 2 years and 6 months to 11 years and 3 months each for the crime of “attempting to loot by more than one person.”

The case has been transferred to the Anatolian High Criminal Court for further evaluation.

In response to the incident, 3 of the 7 suspects involved were arrested, while the remaining four were released under judicial control. Following objections from their lawyers, all three arrested suspects were also released under judicial control.

The assault on Galatasaray fans has sparked outrage and calls for justice, as authorities work to hold those responsible for the attack accountable.
