Fearful Husband: Living in the Shadow of a Divorce Nightmare
Fadime D., a resident of the Akkapı Neighborhood in Seyhan district, eloped with Ali D. and got married 25 years ago. Allegedly, Fadime D. has been facing psychological and physical violence from her husband since the beginning of their marriage. Unable to reconcile with her family, Fadime D. attempted to divorce her husband in 2001 but found out she was pregnant. With the intervention of Ali D.’s family, the couple reconciled and decided to continue their marriage. They welcomed their son Mert and had another child ten years later. Fadime D., who was the sole provider for the family as her husband did not work, took up odd jobs like making tea, cleaning, and working as an agricultural worker.
RESTRAINING ORDER ISSUED
After enduring years of violence, Ali D. reportedly brought a hunting rifle home in May and threatened to kill his wife and children. Unable to tolerate the situation any longer, Fadime D. went to the police and filed a complaint against her husband. A restraining order was issued for Ali D., who was kept in custody that night. On June 20, Fadime D. filed for divorce from her husband. Ali D., upon learning about the divorce, returned home on June 24 in the absence of his wife and children, vandalizing their belongings and threatening the neighbors before leaving.
‘HE WAS INTERMINING BY LOADING AND UNLOADING THE GUN’
Upon returning home, Fadime D. discovered the damage caused by her husband and reported the incident to the police with her son Mert. Expressing her exhaustion from years of abuse, Fadime D. revealed her fear of the situation escalating with the involvement of firearms. She recounted how she had previously endured beatings and insults but drew the line at the threat of gun violence, prompting her to seek a divorce and restraining order.
‘HE LEFT NO STONE ON ONE STONE’
Detailing the extensive damage inflicted by her husband after learning about the divorce proceedings, Fadime D. described how he destroyed their belongings and locked the door to prevent intervention from the neighbors. She pleaded for help, expressing her concern for her son’s safety and her desperation to end the abusive relationship.
‘HEAR MY VOICE’
In an appeal for assistance, Fadime D. emphasized her urgent need for a divorce and protection from her husband’s threats. She highlighted her son’s academic pursuits and the difficulties she faces in providing for her family. Fadime D. called upon authorities to intervene and ensure her safety as she navigates the divorce process.
