Fergana Resident Receives 15-Day Sentence for Trading Cryptocurrency on Telegram

The Chilanzar District Court for Criminal Cases in Uzbekistan has handed down a 15-day administrative arrest sentence to a resident of Fergana for engaging in illegal cryptocurrency transactions on the “Wallet” platform on Telegram.

The 35-year-old individual, identified only as A. N., was apprehended by authorities on September 7 during a special operation targeting cryptocurrency violations in the country. A. N. was found to have used a Redmi 13C mobile device to carry out the illicit transactions through the popular messaging app, Telegram.

During the court proceedings, the accused admitted to the charges, expressed remorse for his actions, and claimed ignorance of the legal regulations surrounding cryptocurrency transactions in Uzbekistan.

Taking into account the mitigating circumstances of the case, the court decided to impose a 15-day administrative arrest on A. N. The mobile phone used in the illegal activities was confiscated as evidence and will be destroyed as per legal procedures.

Furthermore, A. N. was ordered to pay a fine of 765,000 Uzbekistani Som to cover the cost of his detention during the investigation and trial.
