Festival Academy Artists Perform at Budapest’s Dohány Street Synagogue

In honor of the 80th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust, a special tribute concert will be held at the Dohány Street Synagogue on July 15 as part of the Festival Academy’s Budapest Summer Festival. The event will feature renowned artists such as Dora Schwarzberg, Shlomo Mintz, Thomas Dunford, and many others, as well as students from the Festival Academy Budapest.

The concert will include performances of pieces such as Puccini’s Chrysanthemums for string quartet, Mendelssohn’s Octet, the Nigun movement of Ernest Bloch’s Baal Shem, and Max Bruch Kol Nidrei. Additionally, the synagogue’s principal cantor, László Fekete, will participate in the memorial concert, and actors Gabriella Hámori and Zoltán Bezerédi will read excerpts from the works of notable Hungarian writers.

Organizers have requested that attendees dress modestly, with men wearing a kippah or head covering and women ensuring their shoulders are covered. This event serves as a solemn remembrance of the victims of the Hungarian Holocaust and a tribute to their memory through the power of music and art.
