FETÖ’s New Communication Method Uncovered: Latest News from Turkey

FETÖ’s Secret Communication Methods and Foreign Money Supply Exposed

The Anti-Terror Branch Directorate teams and Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office have successfully decrypted the current communication method and money supply of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) from abroad. In an operation conducted on April 11, digital materials were seized and analyzed, shedding light on various aspects of the organization’s activities.

Marriage Process Unfolded
It was revealed that individuals associated with FETÖ engaged in face-to-face meetings under the guise of marriage discussions. These meetings were aimed at increasing organizational commitment, motivation, and confidentiality amongst members. The organization strategically used these interactions to shape the views and education levels of its members.

Financial Aid Sent to Detainees’ Families
Furthermore, it was discovered that funds collected from overseas sources were funneled to the families of detainees implicated in FETÖ-related crimes. The amount of money distributed was dependent on the hierarchical positions of the detainees and the severity of their offenses. By providing financial assistance, the organization aimed to prevent disintegration and boost motivation amongst its members.

Organizational Communication Tactics
During the investigation, authorities uncovered the use of the “Signal” application for encrypted organizational communication. Suspects would change the name and logo of the app to “weather” in case of potential phone seizures during operations. This tactic allowed them to erase encrypted messages after a designated period, thus evading detection.

Damages to the State
The investigation also revealed how the organization exploited state resources, particularly in terms of salaries and social security payments made to individuals abroad. It was evident that the suspects intentionally caused financial harm to the state while benefitting from illicit gains.

Continuation of Illegal Activities
Despite the crackdown on FETÖ-related activities, suspects expressed their intent to continue operating in the organization even after the demise of its leader, Fetullah Gulen. The suspects regarded themselves as heirs to Gulen’s legacy and vowed to perpetuate the organization’s operations.

Arrests and Seizures
A total of 36 suspects were apprehended in operations across Istanbul and Yozgat. Subsequently, 20 suspects were arrested, while 16 were released under judicial supervision. Authorities seized a substantial amount of digital materials, prohibited content, gift cards, cash, and gold with a cumulative value of approximately 7.4 million pounds.

As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are actively working to dismantle FETÖ’s illicit networks and ensure justice for those affected by the organization’s activities.
