Fifth Victim’s Body Recovered from Verőce Boat Accident

The body of the fifth victim in a tragic boat accident on the River Danube near Verőce has been recovered, the police announced on Facebook.

The disaster management authority’s search team found the body of a 39-year-old man near Göd, and efforts are still ongoing to locate the remaining two missing victims.

The accident occurred when the victims’ boat collided with a cruise ship. One of the eight passengers on the boat was able to swim to safety, but unfortunately, five people lost their lives in the collision.

The captain of the cruise ship, a Czech national, has been detained on suspicion of failing to provide assistance to the boat after the accident.

Investigations have revealed that the helmsman of the boat was intoxicated and steering erratically, leading to the fatal collision with the much larger cruise ship. Despite attempting to avoid the collision, the boat was ultimately crushed by the oncoming ship.

The authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident as the community mourns the loss of lives in this tragic event.
