Large Fire Breaks Out in Boom Gorge near Kok-Moinok Village, Kyrgyzstan

A large fire broke out once again in Boom gorge, near Kok-Moinok village on May 7. According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire occurred at the 157th kilometer of Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart road in Ton district of Issyk-Kul region.

At least 15 employees of the Forest Service, two fire teams, one brigade of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and 15 employees of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise were involved in extinguishing the fire. The area of the fire was approximately 10 hectares.

This is not the first time a fire has occurred in this region. A large fire broke out in Ton district of the Issyk-Kul region near Kok-Moinok village on March 24, destroying about 60 hectares of floodplain forest. More than a hundred people were involved in extinguishing the fire.

Another fire broke out in the same place on April 26. The cause of these fires is still under investigation.

The authorities have urged the public to exercise extreme caution and follow fire safety precautions, especially during the summer months when the region is particularly vulnerable to wildfires.
