Turkmenistan Holds First Open Cup of Curling Federation Among Mixed Pairs Born in 2008 and Younger
The Ice Arena of the Palace of Winter Sports in Ashgabat recently hosted the first-ever open Cup of the Turkmenistan Curling Federation among mixed pairs born in 2008 and younger. The participating teams competed in the Olympic discipline “mixed pairs,” consisting of two players – a boy and a girl – and led by a skip who directs the team’s game by indicating with a brush and conditional signs where to throw the granite stone on the ice and with what rotation and speed.
To adjust the sliding distance and the trajectory of the stone, the athletes used special brushes to rub the ice. The goal of the curling game is to place a team’s stones as close as possible to the center of the house, the target marked on the ice. The winner is the team that earns more points for all the ends, with each end consisting of a certain number of rounds.
According to the tournament’s results, the winning team was a couple consisting of Emina Nurmuhammedova and Imran Kakayev. The second place went to the duo of Ayjan Bekieva and Danatar Muhamov, while the tandem of Leyli Jeparova and Oraz Jeparov closed the top three.
The Cup saw participants born in 2008 and younger compete in the thrilling Olympic sport of curling. The event has opened up the prospect of introducing the sport to a younger generation, ultimately aiming to give rise to more professional players in the future. Overall, the Cup provided a great opportunity to provide skilled training on numerous aspects and will likely to further promote this exciting sport in Turkmenistan.
