First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva Inspects Ganja Memorial Complex Project

First Vice-President and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, along with her daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva, recently visited the project site of the Ganja Memorial Complex. This complex is being constructed to commemorate the memory of the innocent civilians who tragically lost their lives during the rocket attacks on the city of Ganja by the Armenian armed forces in 2020.
The foundation stone for the complex was laid by President Ilham Aliyev on January 30, 2022. The Ganja Memorial Complex will span an area of 4 hectares and will comprise a museum building with two floors. The main exhibition hall will be situated on the lower floor, providing access to an outdoor area that will extend along a spiral-shaped wall symbolizing the impact trail left by the rockets.
The upper floor of the complex will feature a multifunctional event room, and the area will also preserve the remains of buildings that were struck by rockets during the attacks. The construction of the Ganja Memorial Complex is slated to be completed by the end of 2025.
During the Patriotic War, the city of Ganja faced multiple missile strikes on October 4, 5, 8, 11, and 17, using various missile systems including “Tochka-U,” “Smerch,” “SCUD,” and others. These attacks resulted in the tragic loss of 26 civilian lives and injuries to 142 peaceful residents.
The Ganja Memorial Complex stands as a poignant tribute to the victims of these senseless acts of violence, ensuring that their memory will be honored and preserved for future generations to remember and reflect upon.
