First Working Group Meeting Held for Railway Relocation Outside Bishkek

Bishkek to Relocate Railway Outside the City
On January 16, 2025, during the first meeting of the working group on the relocation of the railway, representatives of the Chinese construction company China Road and Bridge Corporation in Kyrgyzstan (CRBC) presented several route options. The press service of the Bishkek City Hall reported the details of the meeting.
The project aims to move the railway outside the city. Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev stated that a new major highway will be constructed in place of the current railway. Additionally, residential buildings and shopping malls will be built along the new highway.
Relevant agencies have been tasked with coordinating details with state authorities and preparing an implementation plan for the project.
In late 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan approved a Memorandum of Cooperation with CRBC to facilitate a large-scale renovation of Bishkek’s railway and road infrastructure.
As plans for the relocation of the railway progress, residents and stakeholders can expect significant changes to the city’s transportation network and urban landscape. Stay tuned for updates on this development project.
