In a significant move to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability, Bakyt Torobaev, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, recently visited the Jalal-Abad region to assess the ongoing irrigation projects. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve water management and adapt to climate challenges.
During his visit, Torobaev evaluated the current state of irrigation systems in the Suzak and Nooken districts, as well as the Chon-Nooken canal. His findings highlight the critical need for updated infrastructure to support local agriculture.
The government has earmarked 5 billion soms from the national budget in 2025 for the irrigation sector, which will support the implementation of ten major investment projects. Torobaev emphasized the importance of revising the existing crop structure in response to climate change and advocated for the adoption of water-saving technologies.
Key decisions made during the meetings include expediting the design and estimate documentation for new irrigation systems, clarifying resource requirements, and ensuring timely commencement of construction activities. These steps are expected to bolster irrigation capabilities, ultimately contributing to improved agricultural resilience in the face of environmental changes.
This strategic investment and focus on modernization signify a proactive approach by the Kyrgyz government to secure the future of its agricultural sector and enhance food security.
