Five Istanbul Protest Suspects Arrested

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded its investigation into 140 suspects who were detained for allegedly violating the ban on all kinds of meetings, demonstrations, and press releases between March 19-23. The goal of the ban was to maintain public order in Istanbul and prevent any provocative actions.

Out of the 140 suspects, 39 were arrested and taken to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, while 101 were referred to the Magistrate Criminal Judiciary with a request for judicial control. The judge decided to arrest 5 of the suspects, while the remaining 27 were placed under the requirement of “not to leave the house” as part of the judicial control measures. The judiciary applied other judicial control measures to the remaining 108 suspects.

In total, 268 suspects were referred to the Istanbul Magistrate Criminal Court as part of the investigation. It is important to note that the legal proceedings are still ongoing for all individuals involved in the case.
