Five Universities in Kyrgyzstan to Receive Special Status
Bishkek – In a recent announcement, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan has amended a decree to grant special status to five additional higher education institutions in the country. This decision aims to enhance the potential and competitiveness of educational organizations offering higher professional education in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The newly added universities with special status include Batken State University, Issyk-Kul State University named after Kasym Tynystanov, Jalal-Abad State University named after Bekmamat Osmonov, Naryn State University named after Satybaldy Naamatov, and Talas State University.
The original decree, issued on July 18, 2022, granted special status to Kyrgyz National University, Kyrgyz State Technical University, Kyrgyz National Agrarian University, Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, and Osh State University. Additionally, Kyrgyz Economic University has been designated as a research university, and the institution “Professional Lyceum of Information Technologies No. 99 under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic” has also been granted special status.
Earlier in March 2024, the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University was bestowed the status of a university with special recognition.
These measures are expected to provide these educational institutions with increased autonomy in organizational, financial, and academic matters, ultimately elevating their standing and contribution to the education sector in the Kyrgyz Republic.
